And Katie has big plans of her own...

Yessssss!

Ireland has a new World Champion.

Katie Taylor has filled her country with nothing but pride ever since she started boxing. Just the five world amateur titles along with an Olympic Gold but now she has really outdone herself.

A World Champion in a professional sport, let that just sink in.

Only moments after Taylor had won her belt she spoke to Sky Sports:

“It means more than words can express, it’s a dream come true.

“This is, by far, the biggest night of my career and thank God for another great victory.

“It was a very tough fight, it wasn’t my best performance but it was definitely a big learning curve for me here tonight.

“I’m just delighted to be crowned world champion.”

And when asked about how tough her opponent is:

“I definitely got hit a couple of times by swinging shots and I definitely let myself wide open a few times but thank God I came through it…it was a very tough fight tonight.

“This is the start of the takeover for me in the lightweight division, I’d love to unify these belts. Obviously, one step at a time.”

And Katie Tayor’s manager Brian Peters is hoping for something big, a homecoming fight:

“Certainly, we’ll be looking at (a homecoming fight). Working with Eddie (Hearn) and certainly in 2018 we’ll be looking to do the homecoming.”

We can imagine tickets for that will be going quick enough…
