Bad news for Irish boxing fans here

Katie Taylor will no longer be appearing on the undercard for Andy Lee's world title defence at Thomond Park next month. The Olympic gold medallist and multiple world amateur champion has withdrawn from her proposed fight for undisclosed reasons, a move which will be a big disappointment for the thousands of boxing fans headed to Limerick on September 19th.
A short statement this evening confirmed the cancellation of a press conference scheduled for tomorrow, with a Taylor spokesperson. saying: "It is with great regret that Katie Taylor will not be taking part on the Andy Lee Undercard at Thomond Park on September 19th. We would like to wish Andy all the best."
Lee's trainer Adam Booth added: "We believe we did everything we could to make this event happen but unfortunately on this occasion, the outcome was not to be."
Limerick native Lee will defend his WBO belt against England's Billy Joe Saunders.
