It’s hard to miss the injury Katie Taylor has heading into her American debut

"It's a bit ugly, alright."

Katie Taylor is carrying a knock heading into her first professional bout on US soil.

2012 Olympic gold medalist Katie Taylor will take on Jasmine Clarkson on the undercard of the super-lightweight non-title contest between Adrien Broner and Mikey Garcia in New York’s Barclays Centre on Saturday night.

Taylor will be hoping to make it six wins in six contests, while 22-year-old Texan Clarkson, who was announced as the opponent just four days before fight night, will be hoping to cause a major upset and improve upon her 4-8 professional record.

Taylor showed up at a recent media day promoting the event carrying a very obvious knock.

Her left hand was heavily strapped which prompted the obvious question from reporters.

Will this affect her performance in the fight?

Taylor played down the significance of the injury to Fight Hub TV. She explained that it was a wrist injury she had been dealing with for a few months, but she will be fine to compete in New York.

“I actually have a bit of a wrist injury over these last few months. I probably shouldn’t even say that on camera (laughs).”

“No, it’s fine. So, that’s just to protect the wrist. It’s a bit ugly, alright.”
