Carl Frampton’s reaction to missing weight says it all

The look on Barry McGuigan's face as well...

A win for Carl Frampton on Saturday night won’t result in a title shot.

Carl Frampton will take on Andres Gutierrez in Belfast’s SSE Arena in what was set to be a WBC title eliminator. The spoils of war were set to be a title shot against champion Garry Russel Jr.

However, Frampton will not secure a shot at WBC featherweight champion Garry Russel Jr by beating Gutierrez after he tipped the scales 1lb over the limit on Friday.

The bout will still go ahead, but only Gutierrez is able to become the mandatory challenger by winning as he came in under the limit

The crowd clearly did not expect Frampton to miss weight as they greeted ‘the Jackal’ with rapturous applause as he made his way to the scales. A sea of phones recorded every step he took towards the stage.

As Frampton stood on the scales, he looked over to await his fate. Once he received confirmation that he missed it by such an agonising margin, he exhaled, looked down and an extremely disappointed expression washed over his face before he went off to rehydrate.

Barry McGuigan didn’t seem too happy with the situation either. Although he did raise his hands in the air and clap to get the crowd going.

UPDATE: The fight has been cancelled after Gutierrez had an accident the night before the fight.
