The boxing community are sending their well wishes to Caoimhin Agyarko Hynes.

The Belfast middleweight was hospitalised after receiving a serious slash wound to the face on Monday morning.

Hynes, 20, was out with his girlfriend in Belfast when he was attacked by a group of men, the Belfast Telegraph reports. The incident happened at around 2:50 am.

His club, Holy Trinity, posted an update on Monday confirming that Hynes was awaiting an operation and that he was in good spirits in hospital. According to the post, he was very lucky to be alive after the stabbing incident.

Senior coach Mickey Hawkins also gave a positive update to UTV, reiterating how fortunate Hynes was to emerge from the attack with his life.

“We’re just all delighted that he’s up, he’s talking …”

“They had a brilliant time in Paris last week and this week, we could have been burying him.”

The boxing community have been sending their support to Hynes, with Katie Taylor, Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton all reaching out to the Belfast middleweight on Twitter.
