Zimbabwean cricketer apologises for shocking article attacking John Mooney

Classy move from Brendan Taylor

A nice gesture from Brendan Taylor, but he isn’t really the one who should have to apologise.

The Zimbabwean wicketkeeper showed class by issuing an apology to John Mooney and the Irish cricket team over an incredibly nasty article that was printed by the Zimbabwe Herald.

The article was an unrelenting diatribe against the Irish all-rounder who made the controversial catch that sent Zimbabwe crashing out of the World Cup early. The publication attacked Mooney by inappropriately referring to personal struggles he has gone through, and claiming that they somehow made him an untrustworthy individual.

Mooney caught Brendan Taylor out to claim victory for Ireland over Zimbabwe, which was the source of the vitriol aimed at the Irishman in the offensive piece. However, Taylor sent a tweet early Wednesday morning apologising on behalf of the Zimbabwe cricket team and distancing himself from the “unacceptable article”.
