There is no greater proof of just how close Thomas Barr came to claiming bronze than the live reaction from fans in his native Waterford.
Friends and family packed in to a bar to watch the 24-year-old look to upset the odds in Thursday afternoon's 400m hurdles final and he was a hair away from doing so as a mere .05 seconds separated him from bronze.
RTÉ captured the excited rise and heartbreaking plummet of emotions as Barr beat his own Irish record with a 47.97 finish.
