So, the discus throw is a bit impossible, eh?

Ahead of September’s Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, we were lucky to spend the day with a handful of Ireland’s best hopes for medals.

We were put through our paces at table tennis by Rena McCarron Rooney, paracycling by Declan Slevin and shooting by Seán Baldwin. And it’s nowhere near as easy as you’d imagine.

What Noelle Lenihan and Niamh McCarthy did with ease, our man at Morton Stadium struggled greatly with as discus throw after discus throw went wayward.

The qualification process for Rio 2016 is still underway but the coaches and athletes alike are confident of a healthy trophy haul after the lengthy hours put in in training.

“More Than Sport is a new awareness and fundraising initiative we’ve launched this year as we prepare for the Rio 2016 Games,” CEO of Paralympics Ireland, Liam Harbison said of the new campaign

“Over the coming weeks and months we will be bringing you more, as we take you behind the scenes to meet these athletes, hear their stories and come behind them to support them all the way to Rio. It’s an extremely exciting and inspirational campaign.”
