A man attempted to extinguish the Olympic torch during a parade in Brazil.

During a celebration in Joinville, Santa Catarina (southern Brazil) on Wednesday night, a man ran out from the crowd and tried to put out the Olympic torch with a fire extinguisher.

As you can see in the video below, the gentleman was unsuccessful in attempt before being quickly apprehended by security, yanked away in a choke-hold and taken to the ground.

The development is the latest in a series of gaffes that have plagued Olympic organisers in the run up to Rio 2016.

Late in June, there was another attempt to extinguish the Olympic flame, with a relay ceremony in Maracaju, Mato Grosso do Sul (in the south west of Brazil), delayed as someone tried to pour a bucket of cold water on the torch.

In another incident, Brazilian police were forced to shoot dead one of the Olympic mascots, after the jaguar, known as Juma escaped its handlers.

As fears over the Zika virus have seen a number of high profile athletes pull out from competition, including golfer Rory McIlroy, much turmoil surrounds the Olympics.

With rumoured strikes from public service workers in protest of bad living conditions and facilities, a number of stars, including Brazilian footballing icon Rivaldo, have urged caution for those travelling to Rio.

The 2016 Olympics will take place in Rio De Janeiro and will run from 5-21 August.
