Video: This slam dunk attempt is so abysmally awful it’s actually strangely impressive

If you watch just one basketball clip today, make sure it’s this one.

It’s about time people started recognising the Philippine basketball association’s dunk contest as one of the great sports competitions of our generation. What their players lack in talent and athleticism, they more than make up for in raw ambition and chutzpah.

Take Justin Melton for example. Not content with trying your bog standard dunk such as a basic 360 between-the-legs elbow hang or whatever the kids are doing these days, Melton decided to kick things up a notch.

He upped the ante by putting on a blindfold and taking off from behind the free-throw line after a run-up of just three steps. Pulling off a feat of this magnitude was considered to be impossible by most level-headed people.

As is often the case, most level-headed people were correct as Melton came up spectacularly short on his audacious attempt. You can check out Icarus in a vest flying too close to the sun in the video embedded below.
