Video: Reporter gets nailed with painful-looking shot at New Zealand cricket practice

Ouch!

Ben Kiely

Never turn your back during batting practice.

It’s a general rule of thumb in MMA, that the leg-kicks that don’t make any noise are the ones that hurt the most. The same can probably said about cricket balls to the back.

ESPN’s Melinda Farrell knows that pain all too well as she was struck with a cricket ball while doing a piece to camera during a New Zealand practice session.

Fast-bowler Tim Southee showed exactly why he isn’t known for his batting by hitting a stray ball towards the  group of reporters that ended up striking Farrell right in the back.

Luckily, she seemed to be find and Southee came over to offer her an apology.
