Team Ireland Skeleton athlete Patrick O'Brien picked up a few bruises while racing on a recent trip to Calgary.

The Irish PyeongChang 2018 hopeful explained on his Facebook page that his upper body being wider than his sled caused some major issues after completing a race which saw his arms get the brunt of the damage from the walls of the outrun.
"I picked up a few bruises during my time in Calgary! These all came from when I crossed the finish line along the outrun where there's lots of bumpy ice and fresh snow which helps to slow athletes down but it also makes steering the sled a bit trickier and I end up bumping the walls the whole way up the outrun until I stop." "Due to the fact that I'm wider than my sled and my upper body sticks out per the edge of my sled, I tend to take all of the bangs rather than my sled! It's all good though because I can deal with a few bruises so I can do what I love."
