Not a bad Monday

Mark Selby’s world championship win capped off a wonderful for the people of Leicester.

Selby became world champion for the second time by beating China’s Ding Junhui 18-14 at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre on Monday evening.

The Leicester native was ahead throughout the final, but Ding was clearly buoyed by the prospect of becoming Asia’s first snooker world champion and fought back from 6-0 down to close the gap 16-14.

Selby’s win came minutes after Leicester City were crowned English Premier League champions after Tottenham Hotspur “pulled a Spurs” and let a 2-0 lead slip to draw 2-2 with Chelsea. The 2016 world snooker champion paid his respects to the Foxes after claiming his sport’s most prestigious prize.

“To be Premier League champions is a fantastic achievement and I want to say well done to Claudio (Ranieri) and the boys.”
