Last play of the Super Bowl cited as reason for death in Seattle Seahawks fan obituary

It's okay, it was only a family joke

Michael Vedvik’s family added a little humour to his obit

Okay, we were all shocked by the way that Super Bowl XLIX ended but it wasn’t quite as bad as this Seattle newspaper obituary made it look.

The Spokesman Review, based in Spokane, Washington, published this obituary and it included this line: He was a small business owner in Kent, WA and loved his family, work, clients, traveling, the Seahawks and life. We blame the Seahawks lousy play call for Mike’s untimely demise

And while Vedvik did die of a heart attack just hours after the end of the game, he hadn’t seen the dramatic conclusion as he felt unwell.

His family explained that they included the line as a joke as they knew Michale would have appreciated the gag. Stephanie Vedvik, Michael’s wife, told the Spokesman Review:

My husband would have thought it was hysterical. If I had read this obituary to my husband about somebody else, he would have had a laugh.”

And as for the dig at Pete Carroll for calling the pass instead of the run for Marshawn Lynch. “It was just so true because my husband would have said, ‘What a dumbass.’”
