A refreshing, honest and, at times, revealing interview.
Irish cricketer John Mooney opened up about is struggles with drink and depression on RTE's Saturday Night Show with Brendan O'Connor.
Mooney made headlines across the world when his character was assassinated by a Zimbabwean newspaper during the Cricket World Cup. The Dubliner claimed a crucial catch near the boundary rope that helped inspire Ireland to a win over Zimbabwe.
One Zimbabwean journalist took exception to his claim of a fair catch and commented that Mooney, due to his past struggles with alcohol, was not to be trusted.
Mooney said, 'Simmo [Phil Simmons] called me aside and told me about [the article] after the India game but what can you do? I was more worried about the game and having to beat Pakistan the next week.
'I was not worried about some bloke writing about me in Zimbabwe. That was pretty irrelevant to me.'
