Fieriest young player in darts wins again against the odds

Niall McIntyre

The Asp is as fiery as they come.

Against all the odds, Nathan Aspinall sent World Number five Gerwyn Price back to the gym on Friday night and two days on he was throwing the darts of his dreams again.

On Sunday night, it was Kyle Anderson who walked into the best world number 91 in world sport and before he even knew he was in the Alexander Palace, he found himself thinking about a plane back to Australia.

And the 27-year-old has looked so wiry and so fired up the whole way through it that you just know he’s not going to stop here.

This man is cruising into the last 16 now and he won’t be fearing anybody at this rate.

It was Anderson who was turning all the heads early on with a grip on his darts like a man playing a game of rings. Some man to peg a dart sideways is right but in the opening stages, it was doing the business for him.

Watch his unique style here.

But then Aspinall arrived and he darted his way into the game like a man possessed.

He took out a clutch 120 to take the first set and the second soon followed. He was taking every single opportunity that came his way while big finishes were a collector’s item for his opponent.

Anderson did respond with the third set of the game but Aspinall was undeterred and with every landed dart greeted with a roar and a pair of passionate fist-pumps, he never looked like he was going to lose this one.

He’s £35’000 richer now, preparing for the last 16 of the World Championships and it’ll be a very merry Christmas for him.

He’ll take some beating.
