Nicolas Roche has continued his fantastic form to start the Vuelta a Espana with a second top-five finish in three days.
But it could have been even better for the Irish rider, who made a bold bid for glory in the final two kilometres, only to be reeled in fifty metres from the line by Movistar's Alejandro Valverde.
Roche ended the stage in fourth place and remains in third place overall, having gained three seconds on race leader Esteban Chaves of Orica GreenEdge.
Daniel Martin drops behind Valverde to fifth place overall after finishing six seconds behind the leaders.
