Westmeath’s Killian Doyle registers outrageous 0-17 against Antrim

Westmeath roll on in the Joe McDonagh Cup with a second win on the bounce, this time against an Antrim side that struggled to put a lid on Killian Doyle. Their 0-29 to 0-21 was lit up by the lively Doyle. The Raharney clubman was pure fizz for Westmeath as they raced into a 0-15 to 0-9 lead at the break. Doyle was doing damage from play and from placed balls. Over the course of the game, he pinged over nine frees and two 65s, chipping in with another six from open play. Doyle finished up with a hugely impressive total of 0-17 while Antrim finished with only 13 men. Joe Quaid's side were not solely reliant on Doyle, and had eight other players registering a further 0-11, with Robbie Greville leading the way (after Doyle) on 0-3. Neil McManus scored 0-13 for Antrim (12 frees and a 65) but did not score from play. The Ulster outfit ended the contest with just 13 men on the field as Matthew Donnelly and David Kearney were sent off. The victory for the Lake County puts them in a great position to reach their second final in successive years. They travel to Laois next weekend Offaly are still alive, too, as Laois put an almighty beating on Kerry. They won 5-17 to 1-21 and are definitely off to Croke Park for the final. Kerry and Offaly face off next weekend, with the winner surviving and the loser with a long, tough time ahead.
