Police attend alleged stabbing incident at underage Tyrone GAA game

It was an u16 game in Tyrone.

It is understood that the police have had to attend an alleged stabbing incident at an underage Gaelic football match in county Tyrone. The alleged stabbing took place in Cookstown during the under 16 championship semi-final between Father Rocks and Fintona.

"Officers and colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and two people had sustained stab wounds during the incident,” said a PSNI spokesperson.

"One man was taken to hospital and the second received treatment at the scene.

"A man, aged in his 40s has been arrested and will be taken to custody for questioning.

"Following a very serious incident at Padraig O' Cuillinn Pairc this evening during a u16 championship match, our thoughts are with the individuals impacted by it. "The committee will now work to ensure that children and young people who witnessed this disturbing and very serious incident have the support and assistance that they require in the coming days.

"The club will be making no further comment on this." The BBC has revealed that the two people who were stabbed was the referee and the umpire for the match. The umpire has been taken to hospital, while the referee's wounds were treated at the scene. Ulster GAA chief executive Brian McAvoy has told BBC Evening Extra: "I've been involved in GAA for over half a century and it's the first time I can recollect anything on this scale or this type of incident," This is a developing story and more information will follow...
