Unfortunate error occurs as Michael Lyster announces Man Of The Match award

Did you know this is Michael Lyster's last year with RTE and The Sunday Game? The legendary host is due to retire at the end of 2018.

The face of The Sunday Game, has been presenting the show since 1984, four years after he first secured a job with the national broadcaster. Lyster is the consummate professional, he knows all the tricks of the trade having operated on live TV for over 30 years now. We all know though, you can't plan for live television, sometimes, things just go wrong and you have to keep going, and that is what the veteran broadcaster had to do after an unfortunate error occurred last night. Every year Lyster hosts a live show from the winning team's banquet after both All-Ireland finals. The Galway man was at the Citywest hotel, in Saggart to celebrate with the Limerick team and supporters as they ended a 45 year wait for the Liam McCarthy cup. The live event ends each year with Lyster announcing the winner of the big prize, the Man Of The Match award. Unfortunately this year, his final hurling event, ended with an unfortunate slip as he placed down the card with the winner's name on it face-up, revealing to the audience, and those watching at home the recipient of the award a tad earlier than expected. Before opening the envelope, Lyster claimed to have known the winner already but opened it anyway, what followed was very unfortunate, as the card is visible on the big screen for all to see, sparking celebration around the room before the winner was even announced. Of course the winner was Kyle Hayes, who at 20 years of age is now the proud owner of an All-Ireland final Man Of The Match award to go along with his Celtic Cross.
