As expected, Dublin have completely dominated the 2018 footballer of the year nominations.

No other county came within an ass's roar of stopping Dublin from winning their fourth consecutive All-Ireland senior football championship. So it was the least surprising thing in the world that all but three of their players were nominated for the All-Stars. What's even less shocking is that the Dubs have a clean sweep of the 2018 Footballer of the Year nominations. This year, the top individual prize in the GAA will be contested by Brian Fenton, Ciaran Kilkenny, and Jack McCaffrey. One man who may feel hard done by is Monaghan goalkeeper Rory Beggan. He may have thought his fine form in the championship this season would have been worthy of a nomination. Narrowly missing out on the All-Ireland final likely hurt his chances, as did Dublin's sheer dominance in the championship. The nominations for young footballer of the year are a little more diverse. Players from three different counties are up for that accolade. Dublin's Brian Howard, David Clifford of Kerry and Tyrone's Michael McKernan have all been nominated.
