Donegal “accept the referee’s report” following melee between themselves and Armagh

Three Armagh and two Donegal players have receives one match bans.

Following the incident that broke out after the Armagh and Donegal match in last week's league game, several suspensions were handed out. A melee occurred between players and substitutes, and in the aftermath, with the help of reviewing the footage, and the referee's report, it was decided that one-match bans were to be given out. Three of these bans were handed to Armagh's Stefan Campbell, Aidan Nugent and Ciaran Mackin, while two were given to Donegal's Neil McGee and Odhran McFadden-Ferry. Interestingly, these two sides meet in the first round of the Ulster championship, so the ban carries over to that crucial tie. Donegal have since released a statement, revealing that they will not be appealing the bans. “Following consultations last night between the county board, team management and player representatives, CLG Dhún na nGall accept the referee’s report on the Donegal v Armagh Allianz League Round 7 fixture last Sunday in O’Donnell Park,” a statement from Donegal GAA, published this morning, reads.

“Consequently, Donegal will not be appealing the suspensions handed out to Donegal players.”

This is the second time that Armagh have been involved in such an incident during this league campaign. During their second round tie with Tyrone, five players, four of which were from Tyrone and the other Armagh, were sent off following a melee that broke out during injury time. None of the suspensions were appealed in that instance either.
