Louth's Ciaran Byrne will start for the first time in a Carlton AFL shirt this weekend, as he lines out for the side in their round three meeting with the Essendon Bombers.
20-year-old Byrne featured 14 times for Carlton's VFL affiliate Northern Blues last season, and he's been thrown in to start at left half back this Saturday, with Laoisman Zach Tuohy sirectly behind him at left back.
Byrne joined the Blues along with Corkman Ciaran Sheehan in November 2013, Sheehan making his AFL debut last August.
Carlton have had a disappointing start to the season, losing both their opening games, Byrne getting promoted from the team's rookie list after an injury to Cameron Giles.
