Human beings are creatures of habit, especially those of us who follow the dialogue on Twitter as a supplement to the viewing experience. People want to see what others are thinking, they want their own views to be heard and, unfortunately, some want to read ideas before they can feel like they're allowed to form their own. Whenever Conor McGregor fights, you get these subgroups and subplots forming all over social media and the same formula can be translated to any big event.
