James McClean's move back to Derry City was confirmed on the weekend, with the 36-year-old returning to the club he left back in 2011.
His time abroad has seen him play for Sunderland, Wigan, West Brom, Stoke and most recently Wrexham.
Over the years he has received serious abuse and threats over his stance on the poppy, which he refuses to wear on Remembrance Day, due to the British Army's action during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

In a post on Instagram, his wife Erin alluded to some of these people, referring to them as 'arsewipes'.
She wrote: “Well… where to even begin. The amount of messages from you all saying ‘so happy you’re getting home’.
“You all know how much home means to me- so thank you.
“15 years since the last time he donned the candy stripes and today watching you pull that jersey back on was something so special.
“His beloved DCFC, never missed a game on a Friday night on his laptop.
“He’s achieved so so much, playing in the premier league, over 700 career appearances, 103 caps for his country, 6 club moves, lots of house moves, 1 wedding (thank god ), 4 amazing babies, meeting the most amazing people, and meeting the not so amazing arsewipes along the way. ”
Erin also said that they will be "closing the door" on the abuse they received, but still fans took to social media to insult the Irishman.
On his move, McClean said: "It's 15 years since I was last a Derry City player and it's a bit bittersweet because it brings to an end 15 years in England, but to be home I'm absolutely delighted and can't wait to get going," he told BBC Sport NI.
"I started my career at Derry and I made no mistake that is where I wanted to finish my career, home is where the heart.
"I'm as fit as I've ever been, I have the same desire and hunger and I still feel like I've a lot to give. When I was leaving Wrexham the only place I was going was home.
"For a club of this stature, going almost 30 years without a league title is unacceptable so I've got a challenge and I love a challenge."
