Italian football lost one of its great figures overnight with the death of Milan legend Cesare Maldini. The 84-year-old was a Rossoneri legend, winning four Serie A titles and a European Cup as a defender and a Coppa Italia and European Cup Winners Cup as a manager. He was also heavily involved in the national team, winning 14 caps before assisting Azzurri boss Enxo Bearzot during Italy's 1982 World triumph. He then took over as Italy boss in 1996, when his son Paolo was captain, reaching the 1998 World Cup quarter-finals.
