It was a heartbreaking end to the Foxes' European run, after they enjoyed the lion's share of possession on the night but could only muster two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes.
The day after the bitterly disappointing defeat, Leicester playmaker James Maddison tweeted: "Devastated to lose out in Rome. We left it all out there but it just wasn’t to be. Thank you all so much for your support, honestly incredible travelling fans! We’re gutted we couldn’t send you all to the final."

Of course, there was at least one fan to take issue with the idea that Brendan Rodgers' players gave their all on the night.
@Igino1979, aka Champs2016, replied: "I’m afraid you didn’t leave it all out there James. You use that phrase when all 11 have ran through brick walls for 90 mins and are dead on their feet by the end. Not tapping it around for the sake of it and having 2 shots on goal all game."
Often footballers will simply ignore this sort of chat on social media for an easier life, but Maddison took it upon himself to correct the fan. And to his credit, he remained polite while putting the fan in his place.
"With all due respect," Madders replied, "you don’t know what your (sic) talking about.
"The effort and the attitude of these lads I see on a daily basis is unquestionable. Sometimes you might not be good enough to win but it certainly wasn’t down to a lack of effort so I’ll respectfully disagree."
