Gary Neville slams ‘farcical’ Man United players after Everton performance

"They are a bit of a farce; you almost expect it from them."

Gary Neville was heavily critical of Manchester United's players following the team's 1-0 loss to relegation strugglers Everton on Saturday. The Red Devils' defeat at Goodison Park leaves them in seventh place in the Premier League and six points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth spot with seven games to go. Neville pinned the blame for the damaging loss on United's underperforming players, as the club looks increasingly unlikely to finish in the Champions League places.

The former Red Devils captain unfavourably compared Man United's players with Manchester City and Liverpool. Neville stated that not a single player from Ralf Rangnick's squad would get into the title challengers starting XI. "I've got very few words left for Manchester United. No anger, no comment anymore. They are a bit of a farce; you almost expect it from them. The players are taking Ralf Rangnick down with them. They are bad," Neville said on his podcast. "When I look at Manchester City and Liverpool, they have humble football players; no over-inflated egos, they understand their position, the team comes first. "There isn't one Manchester United player that would get into any of those two teams, so why would you have an over-inflated ego, think you didn't have to work hard or be spiritless? I don't see anything anymore."

Neville: Old Trafford being 'a graveyard for reputations.'

Neville also spoke about Man United's search for a new manager, with Ajax coach Erik ten Hag the favourite to take over at Old Trafford. The Sky Sports pundit, however, said that the club's current state could count against them. He believes interim manager Rangnick will have given Ten Hag an honest assessment of the situation at the club. The 47-year-old described Man United as "a graveyard for reputations," and cited the example of Rangnick, who arrived at Man United with "an incredible reputation" that is been tarnished by the club's failures on the pitch. "I suspect Rangnick will be speaking to Ten Hag honestly, (Donny) Van de Beek will be answering him honestly. We know Edwin van der Sar is over at Ajax and will be speaking to Ten Hag honestly," Neville added. "They will be saying be very careful about going to Manchester United because it can be a graveyard for reputations at this moment in time.
