Edin Dzeko fired Mo Salah a funny text after the Champions League semi-final draw

Liverpool host AS Roma at Anfield this week for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

In the build-up to it, much has been said about Mo Salah - not just because of his incredible goalscoring form, but also because he left the Italian side to move to Anfield last summer. Speaking about the Egyptian international to the BBC, Edin Dzeko, his former teammate at Roma, revealed he had been in contact with Salah via text message after the last four draw was made. The former Manchester City striker had wished him well in his bid to break the Premier League scoring record but also added that he could take it easy when it came to facing his old club. "I just told him we are going to see each other in the semis and that I wish him to score to break the Premier League record," Dzeko said.  "But in the semis, he can rest a little bit." Dzeko also added that it was unfortunate Salah left the Eternal City when he did, but also made clear his decision to make the move to Merseyside had been justified by his incredible goal output since joining up with Jürgen Klopp's men.

"First of all it's such a shame he left here, but obviously he had to go. "At the end he did right because he's doing some amazing things in the Premier League, which is not the easiest league to play in."

Salah scored Liverpool's second against West Brom on Saturday afternoon. The goal was his 31st in the top flight this campaign, enough for him to equal the existing record - held jointly by Alan Shearer, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo. The goal put the Reds two goals up, but a late fightback from the Baggies saw the game end in a 2-2 draw.
