Far-right councillor called out for hypocritical Adam Idah support after Ireland goal

Too right!

Despite being 2-0 down after 15 minutes, the Boys in Green showed good character to keep their qualification hopes alive.

For Idah, who recently moved to Swansea, the goal would have meant even more, given the severe and often unfair criticism he has received for his performances for Celtic this season.

Far-right politician Gavin Pepper was one of the thousands of delighted Irish supporters, tweeting "Get in there Adam COYBIG".

However, he was quickly called out for his hypocrisy, given his anti-immigration stance, and the fact that Idah was born to an immigrant Nigerian father.

Prior to game, Pepper also welcomed Hungarian Prime Minister Vitkor Orban to Ireland with a post on X.

Orban is well-known for his anti-immigration and anti-LGBTQ stance, and has been condemned for racist rhetoric in the past.

After the game, Idah said: "The manager told when I came on to get in the box as there would be a lot of crosses coming in, so I had to try get on one.

"When the ball fell to Ryan Manning, I know what type of crosser he is and the ball fell perfectly for me, it was just about staying focused on the ball and getting my head to it.

"It was a crazy week. I had no thoughts of leaving Celtic, but Swansea came in. It was a good project for me to go down to the Championship and restart.

"I loved my time at Celtic, I had some amazing memories, but it was probably time for me to move on and have a fresh start."
