Anthony Foley died suddenly in a Paris hotel last Sunday.

The much-loved and respected figure of Munster and Irish rugby was just 42-years-old and is survived by wife Olive and two children. Foley died of acute pulmonary oedema caused by a heart condition, according to a report from the French coroner’s office.

There were poignant, powerful scenes at Thomond Park on Wednesday evening as Foley’s remains arrived back in Ireland.

Hundreds of Munster, as well as Shannon rugby club, supporters lined the street outside Thomond Park, the home of Munster rugby, as the remains of the Munster head coach made its way from Shannon airport to his home in Killaloe.

Stirring powerful scenes, that show the power of sport in bringing a community together and the respect, admiration and esteem Foley was held in.

The funeral mass for family and friends is scheduled for Friday afternoon at St Flannan’s Church in Killaloe, Co Clare.
