He had to spend his final weeks as a Leinster player on the sidelines, but retiring Shane Jennings will get one final chance at action before retirement, after it was revealed he will be a part of the Barbarians side to take on Ireland at Thomond Park next Thursday.
Jennings is one of three Leinster players who will line out for Robbie Deans' side, with Zane Kirchner and the Wasps-bound Jimmy Gopperth also linking up with them.
On the 125th anniversary of their foundation, the Baa Baas will also have the likes of Joe Rokocoko, George Smith, Adam Jones, Alex Cuthbert and Thomas Waldrom to choose from for the Thomond Park exhibition.
Jennings says fulfilling a career ambition will be an ideal way to bow out on his decorated career for both Leinster and Leicester.
"This will be my last go as a professional player. It's a shame it didn't end as I would have liked with Leinster but every cloud has a silver lining and I can't wait to get going and to wear the jersey.
"I grew up watching 101 Great Tries on video and Gareth Edwards scoring for the Barbarians so it's been something I've been aware of ever since then.
"I did get called up a couple of years ago but couldn't do it. It's funny that I'm finally going to be able to do it against Ireland," he said.
