There are captains, there are stars and then there’s Peter O’Mahony

What he did tonight was incredible

Peter O’Mahony is really THAT good.

When Peter O’Mahony came off 70 minutes into Munster’s Champions Cup victory over Leicester Tigers, he was given a deserved round of applause.

A captain has to lead the team. When the going is good, they have to coordinate and inspire their teammates. They have to battle against complacency and tighten everything up. They have to ensure that all cogs in the machine are working accordingly.

A star will bring that bit of flair. They have the ability to do incredible things that can change the course of a game. If the course is already set for victory, they can throw more coals into the engine to speed the journey up.

In Thomond Park on Saturday night, O’Mahony played like a captain, a star and more.

His turnovers led to tries, his dedication in both defence and offence inspired the troops and his hard work paid off in the form of a fantastic try.

As selfless as he is, O’Mahony managed to bag his fifth European club rugby try against the Premiership outfit. After running in for the score, he let out an almighty roar, raised his fist towards the heavens and then went straight back to the grind until he was taken off.

The game finished 33-10, meaning Munster earned a crucial bonus point. For O’Mahony though, it was just another day at the office.

7 runs, 18 metres run, a clean break, a try scored and an important game won worth of a day at the office.
