You done messed up Jamie.
There was only 20 seconds to go and Scotland were only three points behind sevens kingpins Fiji. A try and they were singing, the conversion wouldn’t even be needed to seal an unlikely victory.
And that was when an opening emerged in the Fiji backline. The Scotsmen worked the ball out wide to their explosive winger Jamie Farndale who, to be fair to him, had plenty of work still to do.
He got down to work and he got the hard work done.
He hared down the line, drawing two Fijian defenders to him before selling both of them down the river with a deliciously deceptive dummy. Now he has green grass in front of him, now the try line is beckoning and it’s an open goal to send Scotland wild and to leave Fiji reeling in this Pool B encounter.
What happens next is heartbreaking, unforgivable, calamitous, careless and just a little bit pitiful in the Dubai sevens.
Jamie Farndale won't want to see this again! Two points down against Fiji with 15 seconds on the clock, all he had to do was put the ball down…

It was like a lad downing eight cans of Galahad, throwing on the Sunday best, forking out for a taxi into town, setting himself up for an open goal on Tinder and then forgetting to bring his ID with him to Coppers.
Those Coppers bouncers never let you in without an ID. Just like your try isn’t allowed if you step outside the try line.
