Reports Mike Ross to sign contact extension with IRFU

Leinster tighthead agrees to front-row punishment for another season

Leinster and Ireland’s scrums should be safe for another while longer if reports today prove to be true.

It has been suggested in The Irish Times that Mike Ross is set to sign up with the IRFU for at least another season of action in the front-row trenches.

The 34 year old has been a central figure in Irish rugby set-pieces for the last five years, and has won 44 caps for his country.

It is believed Ross was hoping for a two year deal but his agent and the IRFU have settled on a one year extension that would see him up to summer 2016.

His contract was due to expire next summer but it’s a huge boost for both Joe Schmidt and Matt O’Connor to have the Corkman aboard for another season and especially the World Cup.

A union spokesperson told SportsJOE  that they never engage on speculation regarding player’s contracts. Printer ink does take a while to dry.
