Joey Carbery confirms he has joined Munster on a two-year deal

Confirmed by the IRFU and the player this afternoon.

Joey Carbery will play his rugby at Munster next season.

The news was confirmed by the IRFU as players and coaches met with the media at Carton House this afternoon.

Carbery himself told reporters that he was off to Johann van Graan’s side for the next two years. Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt, who is said to have initiated the 22-year-old’s move away from Leinster, will speak with the press about the switch later this afternoon.

Speaking about Carbery after Leinster’s Guinness PRO14 final victory at the weekend, Johnny Sexton said:

“Whoever he ends up with… I hope it’s here but whoever he does end up with, he’ll be a great asset for wherever he ends up.

“He’s so talented and he’s so versatile; he’s got a little bit of everything. You saw with the foot-work he did for the [Jack Conan] try. That’s what he is capable of.”

Carbery’s last appearance for Leinster, for now, was in the 40-32 victory over Scarlets that confirmed he finished the season as Grand Slam, Champions Cup and Guinness PRO14 champion.
