Massive kudos to Chris Ashton and Saracens’ concussion awareness video in memory of Ben Robinson

The Premiership side are leading the charge in highlighting brain injury in rugby

‘With concussion, recognise and remove’

The message is simple but Saracens hope the repetition will get through to all involved with the game of rugby as it seeks to address the issue of concussion and brain injury in the game.

The Premiership club, who trialled the use of head impact monitoring devices, during matches, earlier this month, posted a video urging concussion awareness. It features current players such as Chris Ashton, Kelly Brown and coach Mark McCall [formerly of Ulster].

During the video, the players also pay tribute to a Northern Irish teenager, Ben Robinson, who died in 2011 after returning to a game concussed. He received another heavy blow, shortly thereafter, and collapsed post-match. His death was later attributed to ‘second impact syndrome’.

The video was first released late last year, however, the club and the Robinson family have been highlighting it again today, in the hopes of reaching as many people possible with the message.
