Speaking at the launch of a new three year partnership between the Gaelic Players Association and Clean Cut Meals. Cork hurler, Brian Hayes outlined changes in team bonding between modern GAA players.
The St. Finbar's forward said: "I suppose we meet up for coffees and go for a sauna or a round of golf. A lot of the culture has shifted from nights out these days.
A lot of people are into going for a coffee, going for a sauna or Pilates or whatever".
Hayes explained that the demand on players due to the contemporary nature of the GAA hurling season means hurlers are constantly looking down the line towards the next challenge.
"There’s always constantly something else coming down the line. You’re always trying to get out and do something.
No different to my own club, hurling and football the whole time, or with Cork, the condensed season, we’ve been used to playing games constantly".
In reference to the competitiveness and intensity of the current schedule, Hayes stressed the importance of having an escape away from the demands of hurling.
"I think it’s vitally important that you have that out from training where you can switch off.
When the days come, you’re just delighted to get an off day and relax and chill out, meet a friend you haven’t met in a couple of weeks".
Cork's current strong form is suggesting that the balance Haye's is stressing has paid off.
