England have been banished to play out their final World Cup game with no meaning to it and with a flat enough crowd watching on in Manchester for the host nation's last involvement.
And, although it has been a routine enough outing against Uruguay, the London Fire Brigade used England's miseries and the gloom around the country to promote their own safety awareness message.
