English Premiership giants, Gloucester, have announced the signing of Leinster winger Rob Russell, with the length of contract currently undisclosed.
The 26-year-old flyer will join Leinster teammate Ross Byrne at Kingsholm Stadium next year.
While he has had an injury ravaged season, with just two appearances for his province, the previous two campaigns were very fruitful for Russell, scoring 17 tries in 27 games.
The move makes sense for the player and both clubs.
The emergence of Tommy O'Brien this season, coupled with the incoming Rieko Ioane, leaves Leinster fairly stacked at wing for next season, and with Russell down the pecking order internationally, a move to another province was not necessary.
Gloucester enjoyed a decent year as well, finishing fifth in the league.
Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington said: "I'll echo what I said when we signed Ross Byrne earlier this year; there aren't many better academies to come through and learn your trade than Leinster.
"Rob has really shown what he can do when given the opportunity. He's got a pretty decent strike rate for Leinster - almost one try every two games - and he's motivated for a new challenge in the Gallagher Premiership.
"We're delighted with our back-three talent already, but to add someone like Rob, who covers across the three positions and has all the attacking assets we're looking for, is really pleasing."
