Fred Cogley, the legendary RTÉ commentator and journalist has died aged 82.
The broadcaster joined up with RTÉ as a radio and television sports broadcaster in 1963.
He soon became the Head of the Sports Department in 1972, a position he held until 1999.
He covered 11 Olympic Games, 12 World Cups and remarkably 49 rugby seasons during his career with RTÉ.
RTE announced his passing on Wednesday's Nine O'Clock News, where they described him as a "gentleman and giant of Irish sports broadcasting".
Among those paying tribute to Cogley was Ryle Nugent, the current Head of Sports at RTÉ.

Cogley is fondly remembered by many Irish for his commentary of Michael Kieran's drop-goal to win the Triple Crown for Ireland in 1985.
