The prayers of the Irish rugby public were answered last night as Jonathan Sexton came through Racing Metro's Top 14 clash with Clermont Auvergne unscathed.
The Irish out-half played a little over an hour in a 13-13 draw, but Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt will be a relieved man when the Dubliner arrives back into Ireland camp this evening.
Sexton played the game with a bandage to protect his eye following the thumping collision with Mathieu Bastareaud which left both men needing attention.
The task of Sexton facing the bruising French centre had featured heavily in the build-up to Ireland's 18-11 win over France last week, and one rugby-loving priest hailed the former Leinster man's efforts with the ultimate tribute, more rugby messiah than maestro.
