Irish rugby fans will have to choose between Ronan O’Gara and Paul O’Connell

Can't we have both?

How the hell are we supposed to decide here?

This year’s Six Nations coverage on the BBC will feature a clatter of familiar faces and a six-foot-six Irish rugby giant.

Paul O’Connell has been added to the broadcaster’s panel of pundits for the upcoming championship.

The former Munster and Ireland captain joins the likes of Jeremy Guscott, Jonathan Davies, Martyn Williams, Keith Wood, Brian Moore, Chris Paterson, Andy Nicol, Mike Blair, Thomas Castaignede and Ali Williams in lending his take on rugby matters.

O’Connell guested on the BBC panel for last February’s coverage of Ireland versus France in Paris but is now a permanent part of the team. In a handily crafted release, O’Connell gushed:

“The Six Nations is a tournament incredibly close to my heart and I’m delighted to be joining the BBC team.

“It’s a very different experience now watching on from the side-lines but I’m really looking forward to drawing on my own experiences to give the audience as much insight as I can into the action on the pitch.”

Now to the dilemma…

Ronan O’Gara is part of the RTE panel for its final broadcasting swing at the championship. TV3 take over coverage next year so this be our last time, for the foreseeable future, in the company of O’Gara, Shane Horgan and Brent Pope.

We have yet to make a call on who we will be tuning in for. O’Connell has some high standards to live up to though.
