Your serious social media post is never safe when you’re a Munster rugby player.
If you want to be a part of the Thomond Park family, you must be able to take big hits on the pitch and arguably bigger ones off it. Although the opposition players will come crashing in hard, there is also certainty that a teammate, or former teammate, will go harder with their zings.
It’s a part of the culture of the sport, it’s a means of showcasing humour, it’s all in good fun and you just have to learn to roll with it.
Such was the case for David Kilcoyne, who played 49 minutes for Munster during their 14-12 away win to Glasgow Warriors in the Champions Cup on Saturday.
The prop took a day to mull over the performance before sending an obligatory social media thanking the fans for their incredible support and being that 16th man on the field that helped them towards their victory.

It doesn’t matter how genuine or serious a message is, because almost any moment has the potential to be a comedic one. Ronan O’Gara spotted one in Kilcoyne’s post and seized his opportunity with both hands.
The Munster man artfully used word play against Kilcoyne, to turn his heartfelt message into a burn against his own derriere.
It may have overshadowed the moment, just a tad.
