It's been a tough couple of months for the All Blacks legend.
Dan Carter made his return from injury in Racing 92's home defeat to league leaders La Rochelle at the weekend.
The home side lost 15-38 which leaves their already rather ambitious intentions of retaining the Top 14 title in further disarray.
This was Carter's first match since he was caught drink-driving in Paris and you wonder if this contributed to the reaction of the home crowd when he was substituted after 62 minutes.
It was a game to forget for the world's most expensive player.
The 35-year-old struggled to live up to the pace of the game which yielded only a penalty kick and a missed conversion for his efforts.
He was eventually called ashore after 62 minutes and was greeted with boos, jeers and whistles as he exited the fray.
Some couldn't quite believe what they were witnessing.

While others were less sympathetic to his cause.

Nevertheless, Carter has been around a long time and would be used to the highest level of scrutiny and attention which he would have found playing for the All Blacks.

Carter still has another year left on his contract, so it will interesting to see whether he sticks around in Paris considering it hasn't been the easiest of months for the 35-year-old.

We’ve picked the side we would like to see, with a few surprises on the bench. Loosehead prop – Paddy McCarthy After injuries to Ireland’s top-three looseheads – Andrew Porter, Jack Boyle […]
Very fair from the Ireland boss. Scotland came to the Aviva Stadium with a Six Nations title on their minds, but these dreams were firmly put to down bed by an Ireland side who were on top from minute one to 80. Aside from the stellar displays from most of the players, another aspect of […]
Another top performance! Our Ireland player ratings as Andy Farrell’s men put in a six-try performance to defeat Scotland. Tom O’Toole – 8.5 The Ulsterman’s switch to loosehead looks to be paying real dividends with another great showing in the scrum, the highlight of which was an early penalty that led to Jamie Osborne’s try.
