Antoine Dupont finally made his return for Stade Toulousain after recovering from a ruptured ACL, but the night will be remembered for a moment that looked straight out of the 2006 World Cup final. His comeback arrived in a 48–24 win over Racing 92, yet a shocking red card stole the spotlight.
Dupont had been sidelined since suffering his knee injury during the Six Nations in March. His recent appearance in training with the French squad sparked rumours of a return, and his inclusion in the Toulouse matchday squad confirmed it. Supporters expected a celebratory evening. Instead, the first half produced chaos.
Referee Tual Trainini reviewed the incident and issued a straight red card. Racing players, who had already begun walking off for the break, were called back as Toulouse were awarded the chance to strike again. Elias crossed moments later, pushing the score to 15–3 at the interval.
Toulouse extended their lead early in the second half through Matias Remue before Dupont stepped onto the field to a huge ovation. The superstar wasted no time. A clever chip kick from Dupont set up Matthis Lebel for another try, reminding everyone of his influence.
Dupont’s return arrives at a key moment. Toulouse now prepare for two rounds of the Investec Champions Cup in December, hosting the Sharks before travelling to face the Glasgow Warriors. A Top 14 trip to Lyon OU follows on December 20.
Dupont is back, but the headbutt may be what fans remember most from this wild night.

Just before half-time, Racing hooker Janick Tarrit launched into Efrain Elias with a flying headbutt. The impact was so sudden and direct that it drew immediate comparisons to Zinedine Zidane’s infamous headbutt on Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final. Tarrit’s effort was less controlled, more airborne, and every bit as reckless.
