Connacht and the IRFU have made a call.

On Monday, Sevu Reece was discharged without conviction by the Hamilton District Court on Monday.

According to the New Zealand Herald, Reece entered an early guilty plea for a domestic violence incident.

Connacht announced the signing of Reece in May with the 21-year-old Fijian winger originally scheduled to link up with Andy Friend’s squad in November at the conclusion of Waikato’s season in the Mitre 10 Cup.

The winger was ordered to pay his victim $750 within 28 days for emotional harm reparation with Judge Denis Clark taking into account his early guilty plea, the fact it was his first time before the courts, his apology and that his contract with Connacht would help provide for his family.

Connacht Rugby released a statement, on Monday, in relation to the incident and said that they were aware of the media reports concerning Reece and his recent court appearance and that they are currently seeking further information on the incident before commenting further.

Connacht and the IRFU appear to have got all the information they now require. A statement released on Thursday morning reads:

‘Connacht Rugby and the IRFU have taken the decision, following contact with Sevu Reece in relation to the circumstances of a recent court appearance, not to proceed with a contract to play with the province. Connacht Rugby and the IRFU will make no further comment.’

Moving on and moving forward without him.
