Bad news for the most optimistic, living in a dream world Leinster fans.

Brian O’Driscoll won’t be walking through the RDS tunnel any time soon, as the former Ireland star has once again reiterated how happy he is in retirement.

The former Lions captain has admitted how difficult it has been to watch from the sidelines this season, particularly during Ireland’s stunning November campaign, but with Robbie Henshaw growing in stature in the famous 13 jersey, O’Driscoll is happy to have bowed out when he did.

‘There’s been no second thoughts about retiring,’ O’Driscoll writes in The Telegraph. ‘I knew from early in the 2013-14 season that it was going to be my last year. I couldn’t do the things I used to be able to do. I managed to get by before judgment told me that there wasn’t a place for me in the team. It was nice to be able to call it on my own terms.

‘The November internationals were a bit difficult because the team were going so well. You want to be part of that,’ said the 35-year-old, who is now getting his rugby fix from a fledgling career as a pundit. ‘I suppose you always want the team to miss you a small bit and when they don’t at all you think “Oh God”. But it’s great and it would be unnatural if I didn’t feel a few pangs for playing but I’m happy with what went before.’
