The timing of the reporter's decision to pan to F1 legend Niki Lauda was so poor, it turned out to be perfect comedic timing.
Sky Sports News were covering the pre-season testing in Jerez when they made the knee-slapper of a blunder. Lauda is currently in Spain as an advisor for Mercedes and it was rather unfortunate that he happened to be around the track when his name cropped up during a live interview on the channel.
You could tell the director was desperate to get a shot of the three-time F1 world champion upon realising that the living legend was wandering around the track, not too far from where the interview was being conducted.
However, his speed at finding Lauda proved to be detrimental. It might have been worth investigating what Lauda was up to before trying to get him in frame. If this precaution had been taken, viewers wouldn't have had to watch the 65-year-old take a slash against the fence.
