Video: Hapless Chinese Grand Prix marshalls make a complete balls of removing car from track

Real slapstick stuff

Gareth Makim

You just can’t get the help these days

This morning’s Chinese Grand Prix, which was won by world champion Lewis Hamilton, ended in slapstick fashion as the field tiptoed around the final lap behind the safety car after marshalls were unable to remove Max Verstappen’s stricken Toro Rosso from the finishing straight.

Verstappen pulled to a halt near the pit wall, but rather than quickly wheeling the car behind the wall, an increasing gang of marshalls engaged in a lengthy round of ‘to me, to you’ as they struggled to get through the opening in the wall.

In fact, the bumbling marshalls managed to bump the car’s front wing and left front tyre against the wall before team mechanics raced down the pit lane to prevent any further damage.

All this video needs is a Yakety Sax soundtrack.
